Welcome to Laurentian University!

September 10, 2015 Update

On behalf of the Laurentian Association of Mature & Part-time Students (LAMPS) Council, I am happy to welcome you to the 2015 - 2016 school year!

You are being emailed today because you are a member of LAMPS. LAMPS was founded in the summer of 1969. LAMPS represents approximately 2,000 students studying all year round on campus and around the world via distance education.

Our mission is to represent our membership both on and off campus, and advocate on their behalf through participation in over 15 committees, including the LU Board of Governors and LU Senate. Our general membership is comprised of full-time Envision (distance education) as well as part-time on campus and Envision students.

In addition to our advocacy role, we also offer Awards and Bursaries to LAMPS members. To access applications for LAMPS awards and bursaries, visit www.laurentian.ca . Log in to the LUNET using your student username and password. Select the Webadvisor tab in the upper right corner. From Webadvisor select the financial aid tab, then awards. Complete the form online. This form is automatically submitted to student awards. In the event that any additional information is required, you must submit it separately to the Student Awards Office, 1st floor RD Parker Office.

For many years, in partnership with other associations LAMPS has been able to provide LAMPS members with a group health plan. However, with the changes in how group health plans are administered, we are no long able to partner with other associations to provide this service and we are now actively pursuing our own group health plan for our members. It takes time to work out all the details and unfortunately we were not able to have a plan in place by the start of the 2015 school year. We continue to work actively with LU administration on trying to have a plan in place by January 2016. We do apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused for some members and thank you for your patience while we work out the details. Stay tuned for more updates on the health plan over the coming months.
